Job Description

The Committee on Education shall:

Seek to eliminate segregation and other discriminatory practices in public education.

Committee Work

Issue

Saint Paul Public Schools "Strong Schools, Strong Communities" three-year strategic plan to improve education for all students.

Position

This plan inadequately addresses our concerns about increasing student achievement and maintaining desegregation in schools, based on an examination of the test scores data.

Status

The Saint Paul NAACP and the African American Leadership Council issued a joint position statement in opposition to the plan. We laid out our issues and asked on March 15 that the School Board table their vote until our concerns are addressed. The School Board voted unanimously to approve the plan. Updated March 22, 2011
